Who Can Take CERT?

CERT training is for citizens 18 and older who live, work, or attend school in Kirkland. Others may participate on a space available basis.  Youth 16 years and older may attend CERT training when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The training involves physical activity in teams and students must participate in all of them.  However, students may serve in roles, such as Team Leader, that involve minimal physical challenge.  The course is open to people with disabilities, although a doctor’s approval may be advisable in some cases.

Classes are held in the evening at different Kirkland locations. The day of the week varies with each course series. The 3 hour class is held once a week, for 8 weeks, followed by a 5 hour weekend disaster simulation. Students must attend all classes and the simulation in order to graduate.  Missed classes may be made up with another jurisdiction prior to the final drill or during the next session of Kirkland CERT classes.
